About the Scholarship Fund
Started in 1982 and renamed in honor of founding board member and supporter Gordon Locatis in 2018, the Edisto Island Community Association (EICA) Gordon Locatis scholarships serve Edisto Island children with demonstrated academic ability and interest in post-secondary education from island families in need. To date, support has exceeded $100,000.00 in scholarship value.
Edisto Island Community Association (EICA), a 510(c)3 entity, is the sponsor of record. The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) process is reviewed to determine the amount a family can contribute. This is the same application used by colleges across the United States. Upon completion of the scholarship application process students are equipped to file for more support from additional sources. Scholarship factors scored include GPA with minimum cut off, letters of recommendations and a personal statement. Students received a total qualification score based half on need and half on academic traits.
