Education
Access to high-quality education is valuable to all residents of the Edisto community, of any age. EICA focuses on supporting Jane Edwards Elementary School, Edisto Island Youth Recreation and the Gordon Locatis Scholarship Fund.
In the past, we have attended Charleston County School District Board of Trustees Meetings to advocate for the continued existence of our local school. The CCSD has proposed to close Jane Edwards several times due to low enrollment numbers, and our community has successfully come together to keep this resource on the island. EICA has worked with teachers, administrators and parents to provide financial support for field trips and field days, as well as sharing information with community members. We are dedicated to continuing to have a school on Edisto Island.
Edisto Island Youth Recreation is a separate non-profit organization working on creating an amazing community recreation area on the island. They also provide many opportunities for local youth to participate in sports. We partner with them in order to share information about their work with the community.
The Gordon Locatis Scholarship Fund provides financial assistance to Edisto students pursuing education after high school. Read more on the Fund’s page!
While these are our three main focuses, EICA is a flexible organization, and we are able to provide information and support other education related concerns or programs. Please reach out if there is something education related that the Edisto community should know about!
